An Icelandic author Arnaldur Indridason won the British Crimewriters Association Golden Dagger award £3,000 prize for Silence of the Grave. Indridason's stories feature the dour Inspector Erlendur, who is divorced with two children addicted to drugs. In Silence of the Grave, Erlendur is led into a tangle of marital relations after the discovery of a shallow grave.

It was originally published in Icelandic in 2001 and is a continuation of Arnaldur's Reykjavík Murder Mysteries series, starring Detective Erlendur.

In Bill Brysons book 'Mother Tongue' he says that Icelandic language is one of the few that has changed relatively little in a thousand years and that a modern speaker could read one of the ancient icelandic sagas virtually without stumbling. Unlike English, which would be practically unreadable.
