If you're Japanese lady makes a fuss (and possibly makes you feel guilty) everytime you want to do something with your mates, try a new approach. When you don't want to spend a hot Sunday on the golfcourse, tell your japanese lady that you've been invited by your friends. After she says she has something planned for the two of you, say "because you're so important to me, I'll cancel golf". When you want to have a drink with a mate and hear about his dirty weekend, tell your wife that a few of your colleagues are going out for a drink and you think you should join them. Most Japanese ladies in this situation will say, "I'll keep dinner for you. You should go!". When your Japanese lady meets your family and friends, she will have very high expectations. Your friend's joke or your auntie's lack of a formal greeting may offend her. She may try to smile and listen to every conversation (and try to understand despite her poor English) and become very tired. Try to prepare her and keep a close eye on her during the get-together. After Japanese people learn that people in "uchi" can be treated more like people in "soto", they relax and enjoy meeting your friends and going to family Christmas parties too. When you have a difference of opinion, stay positive. Say to yourself "She's trying to teach me something about her and her culture. This is a learning opportunity and learning will make me a more cultured, knowledgable and wiser person".
