5/9/2007 - Moina & Cradle
Last Sunday was Father's Day!

My family absolutely made my day by suggesting a picnic at Moina. My in-laws have a 70 acre bush block on the shore of Lake Gairdner. A 5 acre clearing beside the lake sports a wooden hydro single-man's hut transported from the nearby contruction village of Gowrie Park by my father-in-law and his dad in the mid 1970s.

Four generations of Bests, Simpsons and Garratts have enjoyed this lovely drop of bush since it was purchased by my children's great grandfather in 1952. It's a great spot for family camps, mid-way between Wilmot and Cradle Mountain.

After our picnic lunch, we continued on to Cradle Valley where we toured Waldheim and undertook the pretty Weindorfer's Forrest Walk. Even though tourists are drawn to this area in their tens of thousands each year, we had Waldheim and the near by Day Hut completely to ourselves on this wet and wild Father's Day afternoon.
